Charlotte Pet Sitting | Invite Wildlife To Any Yard With A Bird Feeder

A bird feeder strategically placed in a backyard garden is a great way to create movement in an otherwise static display of nature. Birds attracted by the feed will put on a colorful show as they stop by for a meal and interact with their feathered friends. Specific bird species are attracted by certain types of food. The feeder style will need to be designed for whatever food is put out so it helps to know a little bit about the various options available.

People who are fond of songbirds like cardinals, finches and chickadees can put out an ordinary seed feeder filled with sunflower seeds. Some are tray feeders and others are tubes. Hopper style units are also popular.

Hummingbird feeders are a common sight in many gardens. These are usually made out of plastic and are designed to hold nectar. One style features several feeding ports filled by an overhead reservoir. A saucer feeder is easier to install on poles and deck rails and is convenient to fill with the reservoir located underneath the multiple feeding ports.

A suet feeder is constructed out of metal and looks like a small cage. A suet block placed inside this type of holder will lure birds that eat insects including flickers, nuthatches and woodpeckers of all kinds.

A ground feeder sits low to the ground and the bottom is made out of metal and has holes in it to allow water to drain off and keep the feed from spoiling. Foraging birds like sparrows, juncos and doves are attracted to these feeders. The seed pan will be removable in many of these feeders to allow for easy cleaning. Consumers can choose between models that have a roof and those that do not.

The bird feeder installed should be appropriate for the environment. There are several affordable models that are easy to set up. Place a shallow birdbath near the feeder and the birds will not be able to resist the urge to hang out in this sanctuary built just for them.
